ST: MARYS CHURCH. Pongumood is more of a kurishu pally
than a chapel. The church is situated in a 65-cent land near Pongumood, which was the proposed site for Hospital Guidance
Centre and School for Mentally Retarded Children. The Guidance Centre was the vision of an ex-vicar Rev.Fr.Mathews Vadakkeparambil
here. He passed away while in service following a heart surgery at Madras. The parish members worked hard to fulfill his dream
Rev. Fr.John Elavanamannil (Now HG Mor Melethiose Yuhanon) played a key role in fund raising for buying this plot As
a first step, a chapel was constructed which was sanctified by Late HG Mor Gregorius Geevarghese Perumballil .The year 2003
witnessed the sanctification of St Marys Church Pongumood which was conducted by HG Mor Markose Koorilose, the parish Metropolitan
& Mor Militius Yuhanon. On Feb.16, the foundation stone for the Guidance Center & MRC School was laid by Archbishop
of Mount Lebanon Mor Theophilus George Saliba. St Peters Charitable Society runs the Guidance center and MRC School, which
is a charitable organization under this parish.
